Dr. Feelgood: If looks could heal Mademoiselle, May, 2001 by Alonna Friedman. Goran Visnjic doesn't recall playing doctor before he began starring as compassionate Croatian physician Luka Kovac on ER. Nor has the 28-year-old ever dabbled in the blackmail like the bad guy he portrays in the summer film The Deep End. What has he done--besides charming us in slightly broken English? Plenty. First time he saw his wife: this cute woman walked into my favorite bar in Gavella, Croatia, about four years ago. When I saw her, I said, "Uh-oh, that's it." But I was shy, so I didn't ask her out until a couple of days later, when I finaly found someone who knew her phone number. Last time he saw his wife: a minute and a half ago. I'm on the phone, and she's getting ready to put dinner on the table. I'm outside with my dog, Bugsy, a three-year-old Chinese pug. First splurge: a motorcycle-- a Yamaha XT 500 I bought after playing Hamlet at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival in Croatia. Last splurge: Sony Playstation2 First English word he learned: f--k. That was before my first English lesson. Did you know the phrase "Thank you very much" sounds like "The thank is chasing a big cat" in my language? Last English word he learned: a medication, prednisone. It's a steroid for arthrisis. First time he cried: I was doing badly in school back in Croatia, so my parents said I could not watch Battlestar Galactica. It was my favorite show.
Last time he cried: on the ER set yesterday... this big scene where I tell the story of how Luka lost his family. I was crying for real.
