x x x x x timeline; All quotes transcribed by the awesome Lost Reference LJ Community 1x01 - "Pilot Pt.1" Jack leaves, and Boone watches him go before looking inside the hull of the airplane. Camera switches to Jack out on the beach, among the debris, searching bags and suitcases. He gathers a sowing kit and a piece of cloth. He then runs to a more secluded part of the beach, looking over his back as he does so until he finds a spot, slows down and takes off his jacket, wincing. The back of his shirt has a large stain of blood. He uses a branch to hang his coat and takes off his shirt and then his tee, to reveal a large gash. He kneels. He tries to look at his back. Someone's walking in the bush, Jack notices. A woman, Kate, is rubbing her wrist. Jack: Excuse me? Did you ever use a needle? Kate [shaken]: What? Jack: Did you ever patch a pair of jeans? Kate: I… I made the drapes in my apartment. Jack: That's fantastic. Listen. Do you have a second? I could use a little help here. Kate [nodding]: Help with what? Jack: With this. [He indicates his wound; Kate looks repulsed] Look, I'd do it myself, I'm a doctor, but I just can't reach it- Kate [incredulously]: You want me to sow that up?! Jack: It's just like the drapes- Kate: No, with the drapes, I used a sowing machine. Jack: No, you can do this. I'm telling you. If you wouldn't mind. Kate: Of course I will. Jack: Thank you. [handing her the miniature bottle of alcohol] It's for your hands. And save me some. [noticing Kate's look] For the… for the wound. Kate [with the sowing kit]: Any color preference? Jack [laughing]: Eh. Standard black. Jack pours some of the alcohol on his wound and winces. Scene switches to Kate and Jack. Kate is still patching up Jack. Kate: I might throw up on you. Jack [clenching teeth]: You're doing fine. Kate: You don't seem afraid at all. I don't understand that. Jack: Well… Fear's sort of an odd thing. When I was in residency my… first solo procedure was a spinal surgery on a sixteen-year-old kid. A girl. And at the end after… thirteen hours I was closing her up and I… I accidentally ripped her dural sac . Shredded the base of the spine where all her nerves come together. Membrane as thin as tissue and… So it ripped open. Nerves just spilled out of her like angel hair pasta, spinal fluid flowing out of her and I… The terror was just so... crazy. So real. And I knew I had to deal with it. So I just made a choice. I'd let the fear in. Let it take over, let it do its thing. But only for five seconds, that's all I was gonna give it. So I started to count. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. And it was gone. I went back to work, sowed her up, and she was fine. Kate: If that'd been me, I would have run for the door. Jack: No, I don't think that's true. You're not running now. Scene starts up again with Jack and Kate, now by a fire. Jack is holding a palm leaf in the air, using it to mimic a plane. Jack: We must have been about forty thousand feet when it happened. Hit an air pocket. Dropped. Maybe… two-hundred feet? The turbulence was… I blacked out. Kate: I didn't. I saw the whole thing. I knew that the tail was gone, but I couldn't bring myself to look back. And then the… the front of the plane broke off. Jack: Well, it's not here on the beach. Neither is the tail. We need to figure out which way we came in. Kate: Why? Jack: ‘Cause there's a chance we could find the cockpit. If it's intact, we might be able to find a transceiver, we could send out a signal. Help the rescue party find us. Kate: How do you know all that? Jack: Took a couple of flying lessons and… wasn't for me. Jack tosses the makeshift airplane model into the flames. Kate: I saw some smoke. [Jack perks up] Just... through the valley. If you're thinking about going for the cockpit, I'm going with you. Pause, Jack looks contemplating then amused. Jack: I don't know your name. Kate: I'm Kate. Jack: Jack. They smile. A noise sounds behinds them, and they turn to look, surprised It's coming from inside the valley and, whatever it is, it 's also spooking a lot of animals that start making distressed noises . Locke also listens to the noise. It sounds as if something very large is stepping on metal and making a crushing sound. Then there is a deep rumble and a roaring noise. Walt, Boone, and Shannon also stare at the jungle in the valley where the sounds are coming from. The people continue talking in the background as Kate approaches Jack. Kate: You ready? Jack: Kate, you showed me where the smoke was. I can get there myself- Kate: I'm coming. Jack [looking down at her feet]: Well, you're gonna need better shoes. Scene switches to Kate looking for shoes. She remorsefully takes off the shoes of a dead person. Locke watches and gives her a creepy smile, showing off the skin of the orange inside his mouth instead of his teeth. Kate looks disturbed, and Locke starts chewing the fruit. Kate leaves. Suddenly the whole wreck rumbles and shakes, and the same sound they heard yesterday at the beach is coming from the outside. Close. They all look panicked. Pilot: What the hell was that? Jack [whispering]: Kate. Jack drags Kate back into the cockpit while Charlie helps to push. Kate [whispering]: It's right outside. Pilot: What, what's right outs-? Jack [motioning the pilot to be quiet]: Shh! Whatever is outside starts shaking the plane wreck violently. Jack tries to grab the transceiver and falters on the first attempt. The plane falls down from its angle. Jack tries once more to reach the transceiver. Kate: Jack, come on! Charlie: Just leave it! Jack reaches the transceiver, finally. They all make a run for it, leaving the plane wreck behind. Whatever makes the noise seems to be following them, as they run. After running for a while, Charlie's feet get caught in some roots and he falls. Jack notices and runs back to help. He tries to free Charlie. Kate keeps running . She finds a tree with a thick trunk surrounded by vines where she takes shelter, sobbing. Kate [screaming]: Jack! [sobbing] Jack. Thunder breaks out above. Kate looks up, then back down and around, looking for Jack and Charlie. She tries to control her breathing so as not to reveal her position. Kate [remembering what Jack told her about fear, shivering, stuttering]: One. Two. Three. Four. Five Again in the jungle with Kate. Charlie walks up behind her. Charlie: Kate! Kate screams. Charlie screams, and they both fall down. Kate: Without Jack? Charlie: I don't know. Kate: Did you see him? Charlie: Yeah, he pulled me up. Kate: Where is he?! Charlie: I don't know! Kate: How can you not know? Charlie: We got separated. Look, I fell down, he-he came back for me. That thing was… it- Kate: Did you see it? Charlie: No. No. But it was right there. We were dead! I was, and then Jack came back and he… and he pulled me up. I don't know where he is. The rain suddenly stops, and the weather clears. Kate sees sun rays flitting through the heavy brush above. Kate: We have to go back for him. Charlie [incredulously]: Go back? There? Kate, there's a certain gargantuan quality about this thing. Kate: Then don't come. Kate leaves. Charlie reluctantly follows. Charlie: Kate?! They wearily walk through the jungle. Charlie: I heard you shout. I heard you shout “Jack.” I'm Charlie, by the way. They notice something up ahead. Charlie: What is that? It's a piece of mud that has a pilot's pin in it. Kate picks it up. In the water's reflection, they see the contour of a body in the branches above. They look up. Charlie: What i-? Jack: It's the pilot. Kate: Did you see it? Jack: No. It was right behind me, but I dove into the bushes. Charlie [looking up at the pilot]: Guys? How does something like that happen? The camera switches to the pilot, bloody and mauled. Scene ends, episode ends. 1x07 - "The Moth" Kate: I take better pictures than that. Smaller, too, if you want something for your wallet. Jack: I just came by for a few things and this was… This was with my stuff. Kate: So you’re not staying? Jack: Call me a broken record, but the caves are natural shelter and a hell of a lot safer than living here on the beach. Kate: You’re mad at me. Jack: No, Kate, I’m… I just don’t understand why you won’t come with me. Us. Maybe a mile up there, if that. Kate: We crashed eight days ago. I’m not setting up house here. Jack [interrupting]: (I want off) this island too, but we both know that’s not going to happen any time soon. Kate: Sayid has a plan. Jack: Yeah, to find the source of the distress call, I know. Kate: That signal is coming from somewhere on the island. If we can find it... Jack [cutting off Kate]: That signal has been running on a loop for sixteen years, Kate. And the woman that left it, she wasn’t rescued. What makes you think it’s gonna be any different for us? Kate: I believe it. Jack: I wish I shared your faith. Sawyer: I don’t mind sharing a few things of her myself. Kate: What do you want, Sawyer? Sawyer: I heard the doc here’s vacating the premises. Thought I’d best lay claims to my new digs before somebody else did. Can fix this place up real good. Might even find someone to share it with. [not-so-subtly referring to Kate] Jack [to Kate]: I’ll talk to you later. Hurley: Jack! Jack, can you hear me?! Charlie: I don’t know what happened. We were, we were just talking and then it, and then it came down on us! It all happened so fast! Hurley: We gotta get help. Charlie! Go down to the beach and get help! Charlie: Okay, I’m on it. Hurley: And make sure you tell Kate! Sawyer: Still ain't five. Just like the last time you checked your watch. Kate: I just don't want to miss Sayid's signal. Remember, I'll fire the flare, you set off the antenna. Sawyer: I just thank the good Lord I got you here to keep reminding me. Kate: It's a dirty job, but somebody's gotta do it. Sawyer chuckles. Sawyer: So what is it about that guy? Jack. What is it about him that makes you all… weak in the loins. Kate: Do you try to be a pig or does it come natural to you? Sawyer: It's that he's a doctor, right? Yeah, ladies dig the doctors. Hell, give me a couple of band-aids, a bottle of peroxide, I could run this island too. Kate [condescendingly]: You're actually comparing yourself to Jack. Sawyer: The difference between us ain't that big, sweetheart. I guarantee you if he had survived a few more weeks on this island, you would have figured that out. Kate [alarmed]: What did you just say? Sawyer: Ah, damn. Didn't I tell you? Word from the valley is Saint Jack got himself buried in a cave-in. Kate: What?! Sawyer: Look at the bright side. Now you have someone else to pity. Kate tosses the bottle rocket at Sawyer, grabs her backpack, and runs off. Hurley: I say we try again. Boone: We can't just leave. Hurley: If we don't move, they're gonna run out of air. Michael: Would you stop talking, I'm trying to think! Kate: Where is he!? Where is he? Hurley: Kate. Kate: Where is he, where's Jack?! Hurley: He's in there. Kate: Does anyone know if he's alive? Is he alive?! Michael: We don't know! Charlie went in there through a tunnel we dug, but it collapsed. Kate: Why is nobody digging? Kate starts to clear rocks, and the rest follow. Walt: Hey, it's the doctor! Everyone stops their work and turns to see Charlie and Jack appear. Kate approaches carefully at first then runs and throws herself at Jack, hugging him. Jack: Ow, easy, my shoulder. Careful. Cut back to Jack. Kate sits beside him and puts a sling around his neck. Kate: Made you something. Jack: Ah, my very first sling. She adjusts the sling on him. Kate: How's that? Jack: Good. Thank you. Kate: So these are the safe caves you've been going on about? Jack: This was a fluke. Michael checked out the integrity of the rest of the caves. Gave them an okay. So you're headed back to the beach, huh? Kate: Sayid should be back there by now and if his plan worked then… Jack: We're one step closer to getting off this island. Thanks for the sling, Kate. Kate: You're welcome. 1x08 - "Confidence Man" Cut back to the beach where Jack and Kate are talking. Jack: I'm going to kill him. Kate: That's not going to help us get the medicine. Jack: Maybe not, but it'll feel good. Kate: So what's stopping you? Jack: We're not savages, Kate. Not yet. Kate: Let me talk to Sawyer. Jack: What makes you think he's going listen to you? Kate: He says we have a connection. Jack: Do you? Kate: Please. 1x09 - "Solitary" On the beach, Jack is changing the bandage on Sawyer's arm. Sawyer [as Jack rips the bandage off]: Ow. Easy, Jackass. Jack: You want it easy, quit moaning. I've got to change these bandages. Sawyer: Well, try not taking my skin off with it. How to score the house call, Doctor Quinn? Trying to ease your conscience? Jack: My conscience is fine, thanks. Sawyer: ‘Course, what do you got to feel guilty about? I mean, you just let that damn Arab torture me, stood by and watched. Now you figure you patch me up and buy your ticket into heaven. Only reason you're here- Jack: I'm here because no one else wants anything to do with you. Sawyer: She does. [Sawyer smiles at Jack.] Jack [gets up]: Change your own bandages. Jack leaves Sawyer's tent and finds Kate looking down the beach, worried. Jack: Looking for someone, or just... admiring the view? Kate: It's been two days since Sayid took off on his own. I keep looking up thinking I'm going to see him coming back. Jack: He'll come back when he's found what he's looking for. The French transmission- Kate: He wasn't looking for anything. He left because of what happened. Because of what he did. Jack: It was an accident. Kate: Well, accidents happen when you torture people, Jack. Jack: Sayid's a trained soldier, Kate. He'll take care of himself. On the golf course, a crowd has gathered and they're all watching Jack take his shot. Hurley: Dude, I think he stuck it. Charlie [disgusted]: Lucky, lucky. Kate [approaches]: This thing have a ladies team? Jack: Hey. Kate: I almost didn't recognize you. You're smiling. Jack: Have to watch that. Kate: So how'd you come up with this? Jack: Wasn't me. It's all Hurley. I've been going crazy trying to make everyone feel safe. I haven't been sleeping because I want everyone to feel safe. He builds a golf course and everyone feels safe. Hurley: Oh, dude. You were robbed. Charlie: Bollocks. Michael: Okay Jack, it's up to you. Sink this and you get to wear the blazer. Kate: No pressure. Charlie [under his breath]: Yeah, no pressure. Hurley: Five bucks says he sinks it. Charlie: Mate, you're betting against me? Hurley: Sorry, dude but you're a Duffer like me. Boone: Make it ten and you're on. Sullivan: I don't have any cash, but I'll bet my dinner on the doc. Sawyer [who has approached while everyone was watching Jack]: I've got two tubes of sunscreen and a flashlight says he chokes. [Everyone is silent.] Kate: I'll take that action. Boone: Yeah. Yeah, me too. Shannon: You just bet on Jack, dumbass. Boone: We need the sunscreen, princess. Jack takes his shot. |
