I have no particularly interesting or life changing stories about placebo.
But don't worry there's a moral to it!
Basically I first heard them when my
dad downloaded 'Special K' off Kazaa because he liked it when he heard it on
Triple J. I liked it but I forgot about it for a few weeks until when I went
over my mates house and she played me some of 'Without You I'm Nothing' and
I loved it! I bought Black Market Music and it was a while until I could
afford buying the other albums and I slowly turned nuts over placebo.
About
one and a half years after I discovered placebo, I was on the internet which
I hadn't been for a few days. I went on the triple J gig guide and you could
have imagined my excitement when I saw placebo were touring Australia.
Excitement turned quickly to anger, when I realised tickets had gone on sale
two days before and they weren't on sale on the weekends- and it was a
Sunday! Me, Emily and Kate (two of my friends), decided to go anyway and the
next day when we bought the tickets I was angry when I realised they were
ROW U seats in the gallery! When we went to the concert (at Enmore theatre)
we went up to our seats to discover they were practically back row seats and
we couldn't see the stage while the support act was playing. We sat there
for a total of 10 seconds before deciding to go down to the bar area. A
quick look around the crowd and we realised we were the youngest and most
non-weird looking people there. There were people with paper mached heads!
Now Enmore theatre used to be a theatre to watch plays back in the old days
so there are armchairs around the bar area and you can see the stage from
there if you hang over the balcony. We sat on a big armchair next to a usher
and I decided to get over my shyness and began to talk to him. After a while
we convinced him and another usher to let us down into the lower seating
area near the mosh pit. We were stoked! The seats weren't A-grade but they
were still good. Placebo went off, and Emily kept wincing every time Stefan
started waving his arms like an octopus. Since then she's called him the
no-cheeked scary alien man. After the concert we thanked the usher and Emily
ran into him at the local subway a few weeks later and he completely forgot
who she was.
And that's my story. Shit isn't it? But we felt special. We saw
placebo and they rocked! This time when they're touring we made sure we
bought the tickets the minute they went on sale and now we have mosh pit
tickets for their next concert! YAY!
The moral of the story? Keep up to date with placebo tour news!
