NBC Sets Sweeps Premiere for 'A.U.S.A.'
Tue, Jan 7, 2003 02:19 PM PDT

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - The first case for NBC's midseason comedy "A.U.S.A." could be a tough one.

The network announced Tuesday (Jan. 7) that the show -- the title stands for Assistant United States Attorney -- will debut at 9:30 p.m. ET Tuesday, Feb. 4 -- in the middle of sweeps. "Hidden Hills," which normally airs in that timeslot, will be bumped.

Although it will likely be boosted by its lead-in, "Frasier," the show will face tough competition. Tuesdays at 9 is one of TV's most competitive hours, with "The Guardian" on CBS, "24" on FOX and "Smallville" on The WB. ABC has also improved its lot in the hour with comedies "Life with Bonnie" and "Less than Perfect."

"A.U.S.A." stars Scott Foley ("Felicity") as Adam Sullivan, a new member of the U.S. Attorney's office in New York. In addition to pressure from his boss (Peter Jacobson), Adam has to contend with a bumbling paralegal (John Ross Bowie), a slacker roommate (Eddie McClintock) and his frequent courtroom opponent, a legal-aid lawyer (Amanda Detmer) who he had a crush on in law school.

Richard Appel, a three-time Emmy winner for his work on "The Simpsons" and "King of the Hill," is the show's creator.
