FADE IN.
[EXT. SAWYER RESIDENCE -- NIGHT]
(ETHAN SAWYER walks home.)
(Up on the second floor in his room, we see BRENDON SAWYER playing a game on the
computer.)
(Down in the living room, MR. SAYWER snores and sleeps while the basketball game
is on the set.)
[KITCHEN -- CONTINUOUS]
(MRS. SAWYER closes the refrigerator door. ETHAN walks into the house.)
ETHAN SAWYER: Hey, mom.
MRS. SAWYER: Hey, Nathan.
ETHAN SAWYER: Did I miss dinner?
MRS. SAWYER: Yeah, well, we all did, except Brandon. He made these sort of
turkey sandwich thingies. I don't know. You want one?
ETHAN SAWYER: Oh, no, I'm not hungry.
MRS. SAWYER: Kind of late for practice.
ETHAN SAWYER: Oh, it was S.A.T. stuff.
(She turns around and sees the bruise on ETHAN'S cheek.)
MRS. SAWYER: What happened to your face?
ETHAN SAWYER: Oh, it was a tough practice.
MRS. SAWYER: I'm going to get you some ice.
ETHAN SAWYER: No, no, it's fine. It's fine, mom.
MRS. SAWYER: Okay. Hey, you must be nervous about tomorrow then, huh?
ETHAN SAWYER: About what?
MRS. SAWYER: S.A.T.'S.
ETHAN SAWYER: Oh, I've taken them twice already.
MRS. SAWYER: What time should I wake you up?
ETHAN SAWYER: Uh ... 7:00, 7:30.
MRS. SAWYER: Done.
ETHAN SAWYER: Thanks.
MRS. SAWYER: Sure. Night, honey.
ETHAN SAWYER: Night, mom.
(ETHAN turns the corner to go to his room and vanishes.)
BLUR TO:
[INT. SAWYER RESIDENCE -- DAY]
(VIVIAN and JACK walk into the house as VIVIAN fills JACK in on the case.)
VIVIAN: Ethan Sawyer, senior at Glen Valley High. Plays soccer, never been in
trouble before, everybody likes the guy.
JACK: Of course they do. What about the family?
VIVIAN: Kid brother, Brandon, 11 years old. Father's a bond trader, mother
works in International Banking.
JACK: Could be kidnap and ransom.
VIVIAN: (disagrees) Uh-uh-- not high-profile enough.
JACK: Well, let's run a Trap-and-Trace anyway.
VIVIAN: Ok. The mother was the last to see him as he went up to bed last night
at about 8:00.
JACK: What about the alarm system?
VIVIAN: Well, she put it on before she went to bed and turned it off this
morning. Danny's running the locks.
JACK: Okay, let's check all computers in the house and run a check on all known
sex offenders in the neighborhood.
VIVIAN: Good.
(VIVIAN jots down her notes, then leaves. JACK looks at a framed photograph on
the side table of the two brothers smiling.)
(PHIL DAMORE walks into the house.)
PHIL DAMORE: Agent Malone? Phil Damore. Thanks for helping out.
(They shake hands.)
JACK: Jack Malone. It's a pleasure. How are the parents?
PHIL DAMORE: Pretty messed up. It's a good family, nice kid. I like to think
it's still a nice town. I guess no place is safe these days.
JACK: Oh, I hate to tell you, buddy, it's been that way for a long time.
(Camera zooms in on a photo of ETHAN SAWYER on the side table.)

FADE IN.
[EXT. NEW YORK COMMUNITY - DAY]
[INT. SAWYER RESIDENCE -- DAY]
(JACK and VIVIAN interview the SAWYERS.)
JACK: I understand that you told the police that Ethan came in with a bruise on
his face last night.
MRS. SAWYER: He said it was from soccer practice.
JACK: You think that's true?
MRS. SAWYER: I don't know.
VIVIAN: Has anything been bothering him lately?
MR. SAWYER: Not that we know of.
MRS. SAWYER: Well, actually, yes, there was something. I was walking by his
room two nights ago.
(Quick flashback to: MRS. SAYWER walks down the hallway.)
(cc) MRS. SAWYER: (v.o.) I heard him crying.
MRS. SAWYER: Ethan?
(She knocks on the door and opens it.)
MRS. SAWYER: Ethan, honey?
(He's sitting in his room with his headphones on. She moves to stand in front
of him. He gets up.)
MRS. SAWYER: Ethan, honey, you all right?
ETHAN SAWYER: Mom, come on! Geez.
MRS. SAWYER: I'm sorry. Are you all right?
ETHAN SAWYER: I'm fine. Can you go?
MRS. SAWYER: Oh, honey, honey, no. You can ... you can talk to me, you know?
(He pulls away from her.)
ETHAN SAWYER: I know I can. It's nothing, okay? It's nothing important.
MRS. SAWYER: Okay. Okay. I'm sorry. Okay.
(cc) MRS. SAWYER: (v.o.) He doesn't usually get so upset about stuff.
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
MRS. SAWYER: I don't know. I just thought it was one of those high school
things, so I didn't want to intrude any more, but ... I have no idea what that
was about.
CUT TO:
[INT. ETHAN SAWYER'S BEDROOM -- NIGHT]
(MARTIN and SAMANTHA question BRANDON. MARTIN finds ETHAN'S inhaler.)
MARTIN: Hey, Brandon ... your brother have asthma?
BRANDON SAWYER: Yeah. He has to carry that around all the time.
(SAMANTHA shows BRANDON a picture.)
SAMANTHA: Brandon, do you know who this is?
BRANDON SAWYER: That's Ethan's best friend, Alex.
SAMANTHA: What's his last name?
BRANDON SAWYER: Derfrey. He lives around the corner. Big house.
SAMANTHA: So your brother lets you hang out in his room, huh?
BRANDON SAWYER: He used to. He's been kind of weird lately.
SAMANTHA: Weird how?
BRANDON SAWYER: I think he's got a girlfriend.
SAMANTHA: A girlfriend. Do you know her?
BRANDON SAWYER: Mm, no. But he was talking to her last night.
SAMANTHA: On the phone?
BRANDON SAWYER: No, outside, before he came in. I saw them.
(Quick flashback to: BRANDON stands near the second floor window looking
outside and sees ETHAN with a girl standing out on the front walk.)
SAMANTHA: (v.o.) Did you recognize her?
BRANDON SAWYER: (shakes his head) Mm-mm. It was dark,
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
BRANDON SAWYER: ... but it looked like they were arguing. Ethan was really
mad.
(MARTIN finds an MP3 disk in the storage box. On it is written:
XXX
OOO
YOUR BLUE J
{picture of bird}
J
MARTIN: Hey, buddy, you know who "Blue J" is?
BRANDON SAWYER: No. Must be from his girlfriend.
MARTIN: All right.
(MARTIN takes the box and leaves.)
CUT TO:
[INT. SAWYER RESIDENCE - LIVING ROOM -- DAY]
(VIVIAN and JACK continue to interview the SAWYERS.)
VIVIAN: You mentioned that Ethan was scheduled to take the S.A.T.
MRS. SAWYER: This morning. Yeah, for the English. He already had a 710 on his
math.
VIVIAN: Well, we spoke to the, uh, review center, and they say that he hasn't
been in the S.A.T. Class for at least two months.
(MR. and MRS. SAWYER look at each other, completely surprised by this
information.)
VIVIAN: Do you think he felt any pressure about school the exams, you know,
sports?
MR. SAWYER: Pressure ... from us?
VIVIAN: Pressure from anywhere.
MRS. SAWYER: Look, of course there's pressure. If he missed a class, he had a
good reason, but if anything serious was going on, he would've come to us,
wouldn't he?
MR. SAWYER: (nods) I would think so.
CUT TO:
WHITEBOARD TIMELINE:
8:15 PM - ARGUES WITH GIRL OUTSIDE HOME
CUT TO:
[INT. FBI - BULLPEN - DAY]
(JACK and MARTIN walk into the bullpen. They meet up with DANNY.)
JACK: Kid's got a girlfriend that nobody's ever heard of, got a bruise on his
face, apparently he's been ducking his S.A.T. Classes for the last two months.
Nice parents, but absolutely clueless.
DANNY: Gentlemen, this is the alarm log for the sawyer house. It indicates
that it was turned off at 9:47 P.M. And turned back on a minute later.
MARTIN: So he snuck out.
JACK: Or somebody that knew the system snuck in.
DANNY: Well, I went over the entire log for the past year. Someone was
sneaking out three times a week for the last two months, like clockwork.
MARTIN: He was probably going to meet this Blue J.
DANNY: And you won't get anything out of the computer. The in box was trashed
last Tuesday.
JACK: Okay, obviously something happened on Tuesday that set off this erratic
behavior. I think our priority is to find out who this Blue J is.
CUT TO:
[INT. DERFREY RESIDENCE -- DAY]
(MARTIN and SAMANTHA interview ALEX DERFREY.)
MARTIN: You and Ethan are best friends?
ALEX DERFREY: Yeah. We've known each other since second grade.
MARTIN: So you'd know if something was bothering him, right?
ALEX DERFREY: I like to think so.
MARTIN: Well, we think something happened to him on Tuesday. Something pretty
serious.
(They sit down at the table.)
ALEX DERFREY: Tuesday ... no, I ... I have no idea.
MARTIN: He's been sneaking out of his house at night for the past couple of
months.
ALEX DERFREY: Ethan? No way. He wouldn't do anything to get himself in
trouble.
SAMANTHA: We thought maybe he was having trouble with his girlfriend.
ALEX DERFREY: What girlfriend are you talking about?
SAMANTHA: Blue J.
ALEX DERFREY: Never heard of her. I got to believe if he had a girlfriend, he
would tell me. I mean, he's kind of ... square.
(Quick flashback to: ETHAN and ALEX watch anime on the set.)
ALEX DERFREY: Sweet! Goodbye, pink man.
ETHAN SAWYER: Dude, that guy regenerates. Look, see? His arm's miming back.
ALEX DERFREY: Ethan, that ain't his arm.
(ETHAN laughs.)
ALEX DERFREY: It's been a while, man. It's good to see you.
(They clasp hands.)
ETHAN SAWYER: Yeah, man. That's the good thing about getting benched. You get
to blow off some practices.
ALEX DERFREY: You can blow them all off.
ETHAN SAWYER: I still got a shot at starting.
ALEX DERFREY: Yeah. And the girls really like it.
(ETHAN pauses, suddenly uncomfortable.)
ETHAN SAWYER: Right. Right.
ALEX DERFREY: You're getting laid, right?
ETHAN SAWYER: Come on. Of course.
ALEX DERFREY: You're still a virgin, aren't you?
(ETHAN laughs then throws a piece of candy at ALEX. ALEX whacks ETHAN on the
back of his head.)
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
SAMANTHA: Okay, now, you said he was benched from the soccer team?
ALEX DERFREY: Yeah. That's when we started hanging out more.
MARTIN: His parents never told us about that.
ALEX DERFREY: Well, maybe they didn't know.
SAMANTHA: Any problems with them?
ALEX DERFREY: No, they're, um ... they're good people. He's lucky to have them
around.
MARTIN: Speaking of parents, where are yours?
ALEX DERFREY: Dad died when I was a kid. Mom moved to Europe a few years back.
This is my uncle's place.
SAMANTHA: Is he around?
ALEX DERFREY: No, he travels a lot. But it's cool. I've got this great
spread, you know?
(MARTIN nods.)
CUT TO:
[EXT. GLEN VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL - DAY]
LEGEND: 18 HOURS MISSING
COACH: (v.o.) It doesn't make sense.
[INT. GLEN VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL - COACH'S OFFICE -- DAY]
(DANNY interviews the soccer coach.)
COACH: It doesn't make sense. Ethan's a sweet kid. Everybody likes him. You
know he has asthma something fierce?
DANNY: Yeah. We know.
COACH: Kid's a fighter, which is why it killed me when I had to put him on the
bench.
DANNY: How did he take that? Did he take it hard?
COACH: Yeah. Missed a few practices. But nothing serious, actually, until ...
DANNY: Until what?
COACH: Well, the last couple of days he's been off, pissy, and then yesterday,
...
(Quick flashback to: [INT. LOCKER ROOM] CHRIS NORTON and ETHAN SAWYER are
fighting.)
COACH: (v.o.) he got into it with one of the guys.
(COACH and other walk into the locker room and break up the fight.)
ETHAN SAWYER: Get off of me!
COACH: Hey! Hey! Hey! What the hell you think your doing? Go! Both of you!
On the field-- five laps!
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
COACH: I never seen Ethan go off like that.
DANNY: Do you have any idea what it was about? I mean, did you overhear
anything...?
COACH: No. I mean, there's always rivalries, but, you know, these boys are 16-
17, they got a lot of build-up, you know what I mean?
TED: Uh ... coach?
(They look up and see TED standing in the doorway.)
COACH: Ted. Not now.
TED: Yes, sir.
(TED leaves.)
DANNY: You got them peeing in cups.
COACH: Mandatory drug testing. We had an incident a year ago.
DANNY: Steroids?
COACH: They got them off some doctor in White Plains. We busted it up. The
school board is going to be processing on a routine basis.
DANNY: Was Ethan involved in that?
COACH: No. But actually, that kid that he was fighting with, Chris Norton, he
was.
DANNY: Now, the doctor that was selling them the steroids, do you have his
name?
CUT TO:
[INT. FBI - INTERVIEW ROOM -- DAY]
(VIVIAN and DANNY interview the ex-DOCTOR.)
EX-DOCTOR: Look, dealing steroids ruined my life. I was a doctor. Now I'm a
file clerk at an office supplies place. You think I want to have anything to do
with pimply-faced kids trying to be spider-man?
VIVIAN: Why'd you get into it in the first place?
EX-DOCTOR: You ever try to live off an intern's salary? Not to mention my med
school bill.
DANNY: Tell us about Chris Norton.
EX-DOCTOR: He was my main buyer, but I haven't seen him in a year.
VIVIAN: How about Ethan Sawyer
(VIVIAN puts a photo of ETHAN on the table.)
EX-DOCTOR: Yeah. He was never into the steroid thing -- I mean, as far as I
know -- but the weirdest thing is, is he came to the store a few weeks ago,
looking for me. He thinks I can get him some amoxicillin.
DANNY: What did he need amoxicillin for?
EX-DOCTOR: It ain't for strep throat, that's for sure. He says he's burning
when he takes a leak. I mean, he's begging me for the stuff. Seems like all
the kids have been hitting me up for that stuff lately. I tell them, I'm way
out of that game. He should go to the free clinic.
CUT TO:
[INT. FBI - HALLWAY - DAY - CONTINUOUS]
(DANNY and VIVIAN exit the conference room.)
VIVIAN: Teenage epidemic of sexually transmitted diseases. It doesn't make
sense.
DANNY: No, not in this town.
VIVIAN: Something's going on. Either way, Ethan didn't disappear because of an
STD.
DANNY: What if he gave it to someone else and they got pissed.
VIVIAN: Well, he got into the fight with Chris Norton, but it wasn't about
steroids.
DANNY: Mm-mm.
VIVIAN: Maybe this J girl we're looking for is Norton's girlfriend.
DANNY: Right. And that's what the fight was about.
VIVIAN: Yeah.
CUT TO:
[INT. CAR (MOVING) -- DAY]
(DANNY and VIVIAN head for the NORTONS'. Outside, they see an ambulance and a
distraught young man.)
VIVIAN: 364 is right there on the right.
DANNY: What's going on here?
(They stop the car and step outside. They stop the young man from leaving.)
VIVIAN: Christopher Norton?
DANNY: FBI.
CHRISTOPHER NORTON: Hey, what do you want? I got to go.
VIVIAN: Hey, talk to us first. What happened here?
CHRISTOPHER NORTON: My sister, she just tried to kill herself and I got to get
to the hospital.
VIVIAN: What's her name?
CHRISTOPHER NORTON: Jen. Jennifer. Can I go?
DANNY: Does Jen know Ethan Sawyer?
CHRISTOPHER NORTON: Why do you think this happened?
VIVIAN: What do you mean?
CHRISTOPHER NORTON: He raped her.
(DANNY looks at VIVIAN.)
FADE OUT.
(COMMERCIAL SET)
FADE IN.
[EXT. NEW YORK CITY (STOCK) -- DAY]
[INT. POLICE DEPARTMENT - INTERVIEW ROOM - DAY]
(DANNY interviews CHRISTOPHER NORTON.)
DANNY: Chris, tell me about Ethan Sawyer.
CHRISTOPHER NORTON: I swear to god, I didn't do anything to him.
DANNY: Okay, well, how do you know that he raped your sister?
CHRISTOPHER NORTON: He's been drooling all over her for weeks. Every time her
name comes up he looks all funny. And then she comes home Tuesday night and she
tells my mom she was raped.
DANNY: By Ethan?
CHRISTOPHER NORTON: No, she wouldn't say who, but ... I figured it out.
(Quick flashback to: [LOCKER ROOM] ETHAN talks with CHRIS.)
ETHAN SAWYER: So how's Jen?
CHRISTOPHER NORTON: Fine. Why?
ETHAN SAWYER: Just wanted to see how she was and make sure she was okay.
CHRISTOPHER NORTON: Why wouldn't she be okay?
ETHAN SAWYER: I don't know, man, never mind.
(ETHAN turns and walks away. CHRIS swings around and pushes ETHAN up against
the lockers.)
CHRISTOPHER NORTON: You son of a bitch ... ! what did you do to my sister!
ETHAN SAWYER: Get off of me!
(The COACH and others walk in to break up the fight.)
COACH: Hey. Hey! Hey! Hey! What the hell you think you're doing? Go on, both
of you, on the field, five laps.
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
DANNY: So Ethan asks you, "How's Jen?" And you jump him.
CHRISTOPHER NORTON: Jen didn't tell anybody about what happened to her, okay?
Not even her friends. I mean, so Ethan comes up to me all worried, asking how
she is, like he knows something. And I got to figure that's the only way he
knows.
CUT TO:
[INT. POLICE DEPARTMENT - OFFICE -- DAY]
(PHIL DAMORE leads JACK into his office.)
PHIL DAMORE: We got Chris Norton back here. Your Agent Taylor is interrogating
him.
JACK: So you're aware of the rape allegation?
PHIL DAMORE: Not from Chris. And I certainly didn't know it had anything to do
with Ethan Sawyer.
JACK: But you knew something.
PHIL DAMORE: Mrs. Norton informed us that her daughter had been raped on
Tuesday. A couple of my deputies looked into it, but the girl was
uncooperative, wouldn't say what, when, who -- nothing we could do.
JACK: And you didn't think this was important enough to share with me?
PHIL DAMORE: I didn't want to expose the family. And if your agents had told
me that Chris Norton got in a fight with Ethan the other day, I certainly would
have told you. But the communication has to go both ways.
JACK: Right. I'll keep that in mind.
CUT TO:
[INT. SAWYER RESIDENCE -- DAY]
(MARTIN interviews MRS. SAWYER.)
MRS. SAWYER: (upset) It's not true. It simply can't be true. And you think
this has something to do with what Ethan's missing?
MARTIN: It is possible. Now, Mrs. Sawyer, I need you to think about this. If
it is true, do you think Ethan might have run?
MRS. SAWYER: I don't know. I suppose.
MARTIN: All right, well, we ran his credit card and his ATM. There was no
activity. Does he have access to any other money?
MRS. SAWYER: No.
MARTIN: Okay. Now, I ... I apologize for asking this, but ... is there a
possibility that your husband knew and he just kept it from you?
MRS. SAWYER: And what? Helped Ethan run away? No. Absolutely not.
CUT TO:
[INT. SAWYER RESIDENCE -- DAY]
(JACK talks with MR. SAWYER.)
MR. SAWYER: My son is not capable of raping some girl.
JACK: Your son cut sat classes for the last two months, snuck out of the house
regularly, was dropped from the starting line-up of his soccer team. He may
have even picked up a sexually-transmitted disease. All of which you claim to
know nothing about.
MR. SAWYER: I know my family. I'm telling you, my boy did not rape that girl.
JACK: How can you be so sure?
MR. SAWYER: That other stuff, as far as I'm concerned, that's just teenage
rebellion. But there are certain things that a father knows. I know how I
raised my kid. And I know what kind of boy he is.
JACK: If you are helping Ethan run or hide, you are just making the situation
worse.
MR. SAWYER: I don't know where he is.
CUT TO:
[INT. HOSPITAL - JENNIFER NORTON'S ROOM -- DAY]
(RUTH NORTON talks with SAMANTHA and VIVIAN.)
RUTH NORTON: I came home Tuesday. I found Jennifer in her room. She was
drunk, she was filthy, there was evidence of sexual contact and she was crying
her eyes out. I begged her to tell me who had done this to her, but she
refused.
SAMANTHA: Why do you think she refused?
RUTH NORTON: Why? She was ashamed, obviously, or she's frightened, he's
protecting someone, and now you tell me that Ethan Sawyer is involved?
VIVIAN: Well, we don't know that for sure. We wanted to speak to Jennifer to
confirm it.
RUTH NORTON: I don't think she's up for it. I'll try.
VIVIAN: Thank you.
(RUTH NORTON steps away to speak with JENNIFER.)
VIVIAN: Tuesday. That's the same day that Ethan erased all of his e-mail
account.
SAMANTHA: Burning the evidence?
VIVIAN: Mm-hmm. But if he raped Jennifer, why wait three days to run?
(RUTH NORTON pulls aside the curtain to let SAMANTHA and VIVIAN into the room.)
JENNIFER NORTON: You still don't know where Ethan is?
SAMANTHA: No, we don't. Do you know where he is, Jennifer?
(JENNIFER doesn't say anything and looks at her mom. SAMANTHA sits next to the
bed.)
SAMANTHA: Look, I know this is really hard for you, but we need to know, okay?
Can you tell me what your relationship with Ethan was?
RUTH NORTON: Please, this is too much for her.
JENNIFER NORTON: No, it's okay.
VIVIAN: Jennifer, did Ethan rape you?
JENNIFER NORTON: Of course he didn't rape me. We were in love.
(Quick flashback to: ETHAN and JENNIFER are on a blanket looking up at the
sky.)
JENNIFER NORTON: Ethan. I've never felt like this.
ETHAN SAWYER: Me neither.
JENNIFER NORTON: I don't want to be with anybody else. Not even for a second.
ETHAN SAWYER: Really?
JENNIFER NORTON: Isn't that weird? I love you.
ETHAN SAWYER: I'm so in love with you.
(He kisses the back of her hand.)
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
SAMANTHA: If Ethan didn't rape you, can you tell me who did?
VIVIAN: Do you think he may have found out who did this to you?
JENNIFER NORTON: I don't know.
SAMANTHA: Ethan was sneaking out at night to see you, wasn't he?
JENNIFER NORTON: Yes.
SAMANTHA: Were you and Ethan having sex?
(She nods.)
SAMANTHA: Did you know he had a sexually transmitted disease?
JENNIFER NORTON: No, he didn't.
VIVIAN: Well, we know that he went to a clinic a couple of weeks ago and tried
to get some antibiotics.
(JENNIFER glances at her mom.)
JENNIFER NORTON: That wasn't for him. It was for me.
RUTH NORTON: (shocked) What?
JENNIFER NORTON: (upset and embarrassed) I don't want to talk anymore!
SAMANTHA: We just have a few more questions.
RUTH NORTON: I'm sorry, please leave.
SAMANTHA: It'll be really ....
RUTH NORTON: I'm sorry. Please leave.
(SAMANTHA stands up. She and VIVIAN leave the room. RUTH NORTON closes the
curtain.)
SAMANTHA: Well. I guess Ethan was the knight in shining armor after all.
VIVIAN: Mmm. Okay, so maybe he finds out who rapes Jennifer, he goes after
them, and it turns ugly.
SAMANTHA: We should talk to her friends. Somebody has got to know something.
CUT TO:
[EXT. GLEN VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL - SIDEWALK - DAY]
[INT. POLICE DEPARTMENT - INTERVIEW ROOM -- DAY]
(SAMANTHA and VIVIAN escort AMBER ROGERS into an interview room. PHIL DAMORE
follows and closes the door behind him.)
SAMANTHA: So we understand Jennifer Norton is one of your closest friends.
AMBER ROGERS: Yeah. She is. How is she doing?
VIVIAN: She's seen better days, but she'll be all right.
SAMANTHA: Listen, Amber, we need to speak to you about something kind of
confidential, so we're going to ...
AMBER ROGERS: Okay.
SAMANTHA: Thanks.
AMBER ROGERS: Mm-hmm.
CUT TO:
[INTERVIEW ROOM - CONTINUOUS]
SAMANTHA: Jennifer was raped.
AMBER ROGERS: What? When?
PHIL DAMORE: Four days ago. Tuesday afternoon.
AMBER ROGERS: At the party?
(SAMANTHA stops cold.)
SAMANTHA: (smoothly) Yeah. At the party.
AMBER ROGERS: Who told you about that?
VIVIAN: (matter of factly) There were a lot of people there. Some of your
friends have got big mouths.
PHIL DAMORE: Tell us what you know, Amber. Whatever it is, it won't leave this
room.
AMBER ROGERS: Well, to be honest, I was pretty blitzed. But I didn't see
anything like that.
SAMANTHA: Can you tell us who Jennifer was there with? Was Ethan Sawyer there?
AMBER ROGERS: Ethan is not really into the scene. He only hangs out every once
in a while because of Alex.
VIVIAN: Alex Derfrey?
AMBER ROGERS: Well, yeah, of course. The party was at his house.
(Quick flashback to: [INT. DERFREY'S RESIDENCE - THE PARTY -- DAY]
AMBER ROGERS: (v.o.) It usually is. We hang out there two or three times a
week. It's great, no parents.
(Music plays, scantily clad bodies are on top of each other while other kids are
drinking and watching.)
(VICKY JOHNSON trots across the room in her underwear and grabs AMBER.)
(CC) VICKY JOHNSON: Amber, you got to see this. You won't believe what
Jennifer is doing in the other room.
(She grabs AMBER and leads her to another room where a crowd has gathered to
watch what's going on inside.)
(Inside the room, JENNIFER NORTON is surrounded by boys while another boy stands
near her pouring alcohol down her throat. AMBER'S eyes widen.)
BOY: Jenny! Way to go, Jenny!
(AMBER turns around and yells out the door.)
AMBER ROGERS: She's a porn star!
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
(VIVIAN and SAMANTHA are both grim at the story.)
SAMANTHA: So was Ethan there?
AMBER ROGERS: He showed up late. And he wasn't particularly happy with what
was going on with Jennifer.
(Quick flashback to: [THE PARTY] ETHAN shows up in the doorway and sees
JENNIFER in the center of the room.)
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
AMBER ROGERS: It was pretty wild, even for Jen.
VIVIAN: So how often do these parties go on?
AMBER ROGERS: A couple of times a week. It's not that big a deal. I mean,
everybody is okay with it.
(AMBER looks at SAMANTHA who turns around and looks at VIVIAN. Everyone is
still grim. SAMANTHA turns back to look at AMBER.)

[EXT. NEW YORK CITY (STOCK) - NIGHT]
LEGEND: 36 HOURS MISSING
[INT. FBI - JACK'S OFFICE -- DAY]
(SAMANTHA and VIVIAN report back to JACK.)
VIVIAN: We're talking orgies, Jack.
JACK: How many kids?
SAMANTHA: Twenty, thirty, sometimes more. They watch porno, and then duplicate
what they've seen on the tv like it's some kind of game.
JACK: 14-year-old kids with multiple partners -- it's getting rough out there.
VIVIAN: Well, the parents impose these curfews on Friday and Saturday nights.
Meanwhile, they're completely unaware of what's happening in the afternoons when
they're at work.
JACK: So was Ethan in that room with Jennifer?
SAMANTHA: Some of the time, but according to Amber Rogers, he mostly just stood
around.
JACK: Is it possible that he did something to her after?
VIVIAN: Amber said she didn't see because she was getting busy herself.
JACK: (sighs) Maybe Ethan saw something he shouldn't have, or was going to out
everybody. We need to get more out of Jennifer Norton and we need to bring in
Alex Derfrey.
CUT TO:
[INT. POLICE DEPARTMENT - INTERVIEW ROOM -- DAY]
(MARTIN interviews ALEX DERFREY.)
MARTIN: Do you like to party, Alex?
ALEX DERFREY: Sure. Who doesn't?
MARTIN: What about Tuesday at your house?
ALEX DERFREY: What about it?
MARTIN: Jennifer Norton was raped there that day.
ALEX DERFREY: What? No way, man.
MARTIN: Yeah, and Ethan found out, threatened to report it, and the whole thing
was going to come tumbling down, isn't it right?
ALEX DERFREY: No. Sorry. That's wrong.
(MARTIN waits a beat. He looks at ALEX. Apparently, he's going to have to
explain it to him.)
MARTIN: Do you see where we are, man? Huh? This is a police station. Do you
know why that is? Because you're 18. An adult. Jennifer is 16. A minor. Now
if something happened to her in your house, you're going to be charged with
accessory to rape.
ALEX DERFREY: Look, I only know what I saw.
(Quick flashback to: ETHAN breaks up the party inside the room and tosses all
the guys out.)
ETHAN SAWYER: Get the- Get the- Go! Get out of here
JENNIFER NORTON: Ethan! What are you doing?
MARTIN: (v.o.) So you didn't see what happened in that room, huh?
(He closes the door.)
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
ALEX DERFREY: How could I? The door was closed.
MARTIN: How long were they in there?
ALEX DERFREY: I don't know, a few minutes.
(Quick flashback to: ETHAN bursts out of the room.)
ALEX DERFREY: (v.o.) Then Ethan came out, went right by me. Jen was in there,
crying.
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
ALEX DERFREY: Look, for all I know, he could have raped her.
CUT TO:
[INT. POLICE DEPARTMENT - DAMORE'S OFFICE -- DAY]
(PHIL DAMORE talks with JACK.)
PHIL DAMORE: I know Alex -- all of these kids. I coached Amber Rogers and her
brother in T-ball.
JACK: I don't think Amber Rogers has played T-ball for quite some time.
PHIL DAMORE: A good kid, she's from a good home.
JACK: There's something very wrong in this town, Sheriff. Coming from a good
home doesn't make any difference.
(The phone rings. The SHERIFF answers it.)
PHIL DAMORE: Sheriff. (pause) Right away.
(PHIL DAMORE hangs up.)
PHIL DAMORE: (to JACK) That's the Sawyers. Ethan just got in touch.
(PHIL DAMORE stands up and heads out of the office. JACK follows.)
CUT TO:
[EXT. SAWYER RESIDENCE - FRONT PORCH -- DAY]
(MRS. SAWYER explains what she's found to JACK and PHIL DAMORE.)
MRS. SAWYER: I checked my blackberry first thing this morning and there was
this message right here. Look. "Mom, I had to go. I love you. Ethan."
(She starts to cry.)
MRS. SAWYER: (hopeful) See, at least he's alive. This means he's alive,
doesn't it?
JACK: Yes, it could mean that.
PHIL DAMORE: That's good news. We'll put a trace on it and find out where he
is.
JACK: Thanks. We'll be in touch as soon as we know more.
MR. DAMORE: Sure.
MRS. DAMORE: Thank you.
(JACK and PHIL DAMORE turn and leave the porch.)
JACK: We shouldn't try to get their hopes up. That message was really generic.
It could have been sent by anyone.
CUT TO:
[INT. HOSPITAL - JENNIFER'S ROOM -- DAY]
(SAMANTHA interviews JENNIFER NORTON.)
SAMANTHA: We know about Alex, okay? We know what was going on at his house.
JENNIFER NORTON: You don't know anything.
SAMANTHA: I know you were getting tired of the whole thing. And then you met
Ethan. I hear he's a really nice guy.
JENNIFER NORTON: He's an idiot. I gave him my heart.
SAMANTHA: And he broke it? How?
JENNIFER NORTON: We made a vow that we would only be with each other. I
thought it would be easy for him. He was a virgin before we met. He promised
we were only going to be together and ... and then I found out he ... There's
this girl, Vicky Johnson.
SAMANTHA: He slept with her?
(JENNIFER nods.)
SAMANTHA: How did you find out?
JENNIFER NORTON: She told me. I just got so mad. I wanted to make Ethan go
away. In my mind. So I went to Alex's party and got messed up. And started
doing ... (sighs) ... something, I don't know. And then I saw him ...
(Quick flashback to: [THE PARTY] ETHAN chases the boys out of the room.)
ETHAN SAWYER: Get out of here!
(He shuts the door behind them, then turns to JENNIFER, grabs her arms and
shakes her.)
ETHAN SAWYER: What the hell are you doing?
JENNIFER NORTON: What do you mean what am I doing? I'm doing what I want to
do. To hell with you!
ETHAN SAWYER: You're disgusting.
JENNIFER NORTON: Shut up. You're disgusting, Ethan. How could you? I loved
you, you liar.
ETHAN SAWYER: Look at you.
JENNIFER NORTON: Liar!
(ETHAN turns and leaves the room. JENNIFER remains behind, crying.)
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
SAMANTHA: And that was the last time you saw Ethan?
JENNIFER NORTON: No. I didn't hear from him for two days. And then, um ...
Friday night I was asleep ...
(Quick flashback to: ETHAN stands outside JENNIFER'S window and throws rocks at
it trying to get her attention.)
JENNIFER NORTON: (v.o.) He came by my house.
ETHAN SAWYER: Jen ... Jennifer! Jennifer!
(The lights go on. JENNIFER steps out onto the balcony.)
ETHAN SAWYER: Let me in.
JENNIFER NORTON: Ethan, what are you doing here?
ETHAN SAWYER: Jen, let me in. I'm sorry about the other day. I know what
happened. I'm so sorry. But I-I-I need to talk to you.
JENNIFER NORTON: (shakes her head) Just go away. I can't deal right now.
(JENNIFER walks back into the room.)
ETHAN SAWYER: Jennifer, please ...
(She turns the light off.)
JENNIFER NORTON: (v.o.) I should have let him in.
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
JENNIFER NORTON: Maybe if I had let him in ...
SAMANTHA: Hey, it's okay.
JENNIFER NORTON: I don't know why I was ever doing any of that. Maybe cause
everybody else was. I thought ... I thought it was nothing at first. Like a
game or something. After a while it just started to feel ... bad. Really bad.
But I kept going back ... until I met Ethan.
(SAMANTHA reaches out and holds JENNIFER as she cries.)
SAMANTHA: (quietly) It's okay.
CUT TO:
[INT. HOSPITAL - HALLWAY -- CONTINUOUS]
(VIVIAN waits outside with RUTH NORTON. SAMANTHA walks out.)
SAMANTHA: Mrs. Norton, I just spoke to your daughter. She wasn't raped. Not
by Ethan Sawyer, not by anybody.
RUTH NORTON: No, she told me she was. Why would she lie to me?
SAMANTHA: Well, I don't think she lied to you. I think she let you believe
what you wanted to believe.
MRS. NORTON: What I wanted to believe? What could be worse then rape?
SAMANTHA: She was having sex with multiple partners at a party, and it wasn't
the first time. She was too embarrassed and humiliated to tell you, so she
didn't.
MRS. NORTON: So she let me believe that ...
SAMANTHA: And she got your attention. Which is what she needs from you right
now.
(MRS. NORTON glances at VIVIAN, then turns and heads into JENNIFER'S room.)
CUT TO:
[INT. HOSPITAL - JENNIFER'S ROOM -- DAY]
(JENNIFER has her hands over her face. RUTH NORTON appears in the doorway and
JENNIFER looks up at her. Their eyes meet.)
CUT TO:
WHITEBOARD TIMELINE:
11:15 PM - APOLOGIZES TO JENNIFER
[EXT. GLEN VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL-- DAY]
LEGEND: 41 HOURS MISSING
(DANNY and MARTIN step out of their parked car and look around at the group of
teenagers hanging around in the parking lot.)
DANNY: Vicky Johnson? FBI. Which one of you is Vicky Johnson?
(VICKY JOHNSON stands up.)
CUT TO:
[SHORT TIME LATER]
(DANNY and MARTIN interview VICKY JOHNSON.)
VICKY JOHNSON: I never had sex with Ethan.
MARTIN: That's not what you told Jennifer Norton.
(VICKY glances away guiltily.)
MARTIN: She's in the hospital, Vicky. She tried to kill herself. And we're
fairly certain that she's telling us the truth.
DANNY: You wanted to hurt Ethan and Ethan's gone missing. That makes you a
suspect, Vicky. Do you get that?
MARTIN: So come on, help us out here.
(She sighs.)
VICKY JOHNSON: It was supposed to be a joke. Look, I told Jennifer I slept
with Ethan. And ... I told her in a lot of detail.
MARTIN: That was Tuesday afternoon?
VICKY JOHNSON: Yeah. She was pretty messed up about it. Later I saw her at
the party and she was with these guys and Ethan showed up and the whole thing
got pretty ugly. After a couple of days, I started feeling really bad about it,
so I went to his house ...
(Quick flashback to: [EXT. SAWYER HOUSE - NIGHT] VICKY and ETHAN are outside
on the sidewalk.)
VICKY JOHNSON: (v.o.) ... and told him the truth.
ETHAN SAWYER: (angrily) And you just lie like that? For fun?
VICKY JOHNSON: I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. Ethan, are you okay?
ETHAN SAWYER: (upset, angry and hurt) Why would he put you up to that? Why
would ... why would he do that to me?
VICKY JOHNSON: I don't ... I don't know. I mean, maybe he just wanted to screw
with you or something.
ETHAN SAWYER: I'm going to kill him ... I'm going to kill him.
(ETHAN heads past VICKY toward the house.)
MARTIN: (v.o.) And whose idea was it to lie to Jennifer?
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
VICKY JOHNSON: Do I have to say?
DANNY: Yes, you have to say.
VICKY JOHNSON: Alex. Alex Derfrey.
FADE OUT.
(COMMERCIAL SET)
FADE IN.
[INT. FBI - INTERVIEW ROOM -- DAY]
(MARTIN re-interviews ALEX DERFREY. MARTIN stands in the room looking through a
file and taking his time about it.)
ALEX DERFREY: What's going on here, man? I told you everything already.
MARTIN: We just have a few more questions ... for clarification. (pause) So I
spoke with this girl, Vicky Johnson. You know her?
ALEX DERFREY: Yeah. Sure.
MARTIN: She mentioned some gag that you played on Ethan. You know what I'm
talking about?
ALEX DERFREY: Gag?
MARTIN: Yeah. Apparently you knew that Ethan and Jennifer Norton were in love,
so you told Vicky to lie to her. Say that Ethan was sleeping with someone else.
ALEX DERFREY: It was just a joke.
MARTIN: Right. But Jennifer ended up at your house on Tuesday night, back to
her old ways. And Ethan saw what was going on and that's when they had that
fight.
(ALEX clears his throat and folds his hands on the table.)
ALEX DERFREY: I'm sorry. I should have told you before.
MARTIN: Yeah. Yeah, you probably should have. And I think you would have, if
you didn't have something else to hide. Now what was that?
ALEX DERFREY: You know what? I want to talk to my uncle now.
MARTIN: We already called your uncle. He knows what's going on. And, uh ...
he didn't seem all that concerned. As a matter of fact, he's on his way to Hong
Kong right now. Won't be back until next week.
ALEX DERFREY: (shrugs) Whatever.
MARTIN: Maybe we should call your mom. You have any idea where we can find
her?
(ALEX doesn't answer.)
MARTIN: I didn't think so. (pauses) You know, I went to high school with a
guy like you. Threw all the big parties, slept with all the girls. But you
know what? He was really just a sad, lonely kid. And you know why? Because
when it came down to it, nobody really gave a crap about him.
ALEX DERFREY: Well ... you got it all figured out.
MARTIN: Well, you know, Ethan. He's got a mom, and a dad. He's got a real
life. That's all you really want, isn't it?
ALEX DERFREY: So what, you're going arrest me for being lonely?
MARTIN: No, but I will arrest you for killing Ethan.
ALEX DERFREY: Why the hell would I kill Ethan? He's my best friend.
MARTIN: Because your best friend found out about your little prank and he snuck
out of his house that night to come see you and to tell you what he thought of
you. And maybe just to give you the beating that you deserved. But you got the
better of him, didn't you?
ALEX DERFREY: No.
MARTIN: It was an accident right? You guys got into it. He told you what's
what. And then you lost your cool, Alex.
ALEX DERFREY: That's not what happened.
MARTIN: Then what? Cause I know he came to see you.
ALEX DERFREY: Yeah. He did come to see me, but that's not what happened.
MARTIN: Then what happened, Alex? What?!
ALEX DERFREY: He ... (voice breaking) He wanted to know why.
(Quick flashback to: [ALEX'S HOUSE] ETHAN confronts ALEX.)
ETHAN SAWYER: (angry and upset) How could you do this to me? You're supposed
to be my brother.
ALEX DERFREY: I was trying to protect you, man. You saw her. Y-you think she
cares about you? You think she loves you?
(ETHAN pushes ALEX back onto the couch.)
ETHAN SAWYER: You want to talk about love?
(But instead of following it up, ETHAN looks down at ALEX.)
ETHAN SAWYER: (quietly) You're pathetic. I don't ever want to see you again.
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
ALEX DERFREY: It's just, I ... didn't want to lose him.
CUT TO:
WHITEBOARD TIMELINE
-- ETHAN LEAVES ALEX'S PLACE ?
(MARTIN draws a line under the above.)
[INT. FBI - BULLPEN -- DAY]
(MARTIN turns around to the conference table and caps the pen.)
MARTIN: So he went to Jennifer's after Alex.
VIVIAN: If Alex is telling the truth.
MARTIN: I think he is. He's a sad, screwed up kid, but I don't think he killed
Ethan.
VIVIAN: So what happened after Ethan left Jennifer?
(SAMANTHA walks in carrying a file folder. She shows JACK the picture of VICKY
JOHNSON.)
SAMANTHA: I got background on Vicky Johnson. Check this out. Johnson is her
mother's name. Her born name is Victoria Ann Damore.
(JACK looks at SAMANTHA. She nods her head.)
SAMANTHA: Sheriff Damore is her father.
CUT TO:
[INT. POLICE DEPARTMENT - INTERVIEW ROOM]
(PHIL DAMORE walks up to the conference room door. JACK is in side the room
writing. He looks up.)
PHIL DAMORE: Deputy said you wanted to see me.
JACK: Yeah, Phil, come in. Shut the door behind you.
(PHIL DAMORE closes the door.)
JACK: Grab a seat.
(He sits down.)
JACK: Looks like we might have had a breakthrough.
PHIL DAMORE: That's great.
JACK: Yeah. A girl named Vicky Johnson. She gave us some information about
Jennifer Norton.
PHIL DAMORE: And?
JACK: Looks like your people were right. There was no rape.
PHIL DAMORE: (stunned) So Jennifer lied?
JACK: Apparently.
PHIL DAMORE: Did her mother know?
JACK: About Jennifer lying? No. Mrs. Norton is a good woman just trying to
protect her daughter.
PHIL DAMORE: Yeah.
JACK: She is a good woman, isn't she?
PHIL DAMORE: What's that?
JACK: Ruth Norton, she's a good woman. We've run a check on your phones.
Here, and your cell phone. We know that the night Ethan went missing, you called
Ruth Norton several times. Why? (pauses) We've checked the records back to
January, Phil.
PHIL DAMORE: So Ruth and I were seeing each other. I mean, we're adults, it's
not a crime. I'm in the process of getting a divorce. When it comes through, we
plan on being married.
JACK: We've been all over the Nortons for the last twenty-four hours and you
have never mentioned it.
PHIL DAMORE: What's this about?
JACK: Ruth Norton told you that her daughter was raped. But you knew that no
one would take it seriously because she wasn't going to talk. So you went down
to the high school, talked to a couple of high school kids, stumbled into Alex
Derfrey's parties and that's where you saw your own daughter Vicky.
(PHIL DAMORE doesn't say anything. After a long moment, PHIL reaches for his
gun. JACK reaches for his, too. PHIL holds out his hand to stop him while he
stops moving at the same time. He continues to reach for his gun, only this
time, very slowly. He takes his gun out and puts it on the table handle toward
JACK.)
JACK: I understand, Phil, I really do.
(JACK reaches for PHIL'S gun and pulls it away from him.)
JACK: I have two daughters of my own, and I would do anything to protect them.
PHIL DAMORE: It was an accident. I never meant for ...
JACK: I know. I just want you to tell me what happened on Friday night.
PHIL DAMORE: I went over to that kid's house. Alex. They were doing things
that were just ... you wouldn't believe.
(Quick flashback to: [ALEX'S HOUSE] Through the window, PHIL DAMORE sees the
party going on inside.)
PHIL DAMORE: (v.o.) I was going to go in there and bust it up, and then Vicky
came out.
(VICKY JOHNSON steps out of the house wearing a man's shirt and smoking a
cigarette. She looks at her father. Their eyes meet and she takes a long, slow
drag from her cigarette. PHIL stands there frozen.
PHIL DAMORE: (v.o.) The look in my daughter's eye.
(After he doesn't say anything, VICKY contemptuously throws the cigarette down
at his feet. She turns and goes back into the house.)
PHIL DAMORE: (voice breaking) (v.o.) I don't know ... I knew I'd lost her.
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
PHIL DAMORE: And somehow, I couldn't get the nerve up to go in there and put an
end to it. I just wish I had. God.
JACK: So what did you do?
PHIL DAMORE: I called Ruth. I couldn't get her. She was in the city working
on some big deals.
(Quick flashback to: PHIL sits inside his car.)
PHIL DAMORE: (v.o.) I went and got drunk.
(He takes a drink from the bottle.)
PHIL DAMORE: (v.o.) I parked myself in front of her house and just waited for
her to come home. And then I saw Ethan.
(He looks up and sees ETHAN standing just outside the house under JENNIFER'S
balcony.)
JENNIFER NORTON: Go away, I can't deal right now.
ETHAN SAWYER: Jennifer, please.
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
PHIL DAMORE: And that did it for me.
(Quick flashback to: ETHAN leaves and PHIL follows him.)
PHIL DAMORE: (v.o.) I thought, it had to be him -- the one who raped Jen. So,
I picked him up and took him out to the woods, outside of town.
(The siren sounds on and off.)
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
[ON PHIL DAMORE]
PHIL DAMORE: I just wanted him to confess.
(Quick flashback to: ETHAN is in the backseat of the car.)
ETHAN SAWYER: I didn't do anything.
(PHIL opens the door and grabs ETHAN. He pulls him out of the car and throws
him to the ground.)
PHIL DAMORE: You raped her, you piece of crap!
ETHAN SAWYER: I didn't ... who?
PHIL DAMORE: Jennifer Norton.
ETHAN SAWYER: What?
PHIL DAMORE: Yeah. I know all about it. Now I want to hear it from you.
ETHAN SAWYER: You're crazy.
(ETHAN scrambles to his feet to get away. PHIL grabs ETHAN and puts him in a
head lock.)
ETHAN SAWYER: (panicked and gasping for air) I love her!
PHIL DAMORE: Tell me now. Say it, you son of a bitch. Tell me what you did to
her. Say it!
(ETHAN stops struggling and goes slack. PHIL looks up and around him as he
realizes that ETHAN'S dead.)
PHIL DAMORE: (v.o.) It just happened so quickly. I forgot all about his
asthma.
(Both PHIL and ETHAN vanish from the scene. Camera lingers on the bare ground.)
PHIL DAMORE: (cc) I don't know.
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
PHIL DAMORE: After I screwed up with my daughter, I just wanted to be there for
Jen. I just wanted to ... be there.
JACK: Sheriff Damore ... I'm going to have to read you your rights.
(The two men sit facing each other across the table.)
CUT TO:
[SECLUDED SPOT OFF THE ROAD - NIGHT]
(OFFICER cars and the CORONER'S van converge on the secluded spot where ETHAN'S
body is.)
[Cue song: "Fade Into You", by Mazzy Star]
CUT TO:
[POLICE DEPARTMENT]
(PHIL DAMORE walks out of the interview room with handcuffs on. JACK follows
him accompanied by a couple of officers.)
CUT TO:
[SECLUDED SPOT OFF THE ROAD - NIGHT]
(The OFFICERS search the area for ETHAN.)
CUT TO:
[POLICE DEPARTMENT]
(PHIL DAMORE is accompanied out of the conference room. OFFICERS in the
department get to their feet.)
CUT TO:
[SECLUDED SPOT OFF THE ROAD - NIGHT]
(They find ETHAN'S body. The OFFICER looks up from the body.)
CUT TO:
[INT. HOSPITAL - NIGHT]
(JENNIFER NORTON sees her mom talking with the police OFFICER. She's crying as
she walks out of the room and heads toward her mother.)
(RUTH NORTON turns around and sees JENNIFER. Tears run down JENNIFER'S face.
Her mom rushes over to her and holds her as she cries.)
CUT TO:
[EXT. SAWYERS RESIDENCE - NIGHT]
(The SAWYERS' door opens and a guest leaves the house as MARTIN and DANNY head
up the front walk. They see DANNY and MARTIN walking toward them and they
know.)
(MRS. SAWYER turns back into the house, distraught. MR. SAWYER tries to wait for
them, but he can't do it. He, too, turns and heads into the house after his
wife.)
(Up on the second floor, BRANDON leaves his computer to look out the window at
the commotion below.)
CUT TO:
[INT. FBI - BULLPEN - NIGHT]
(MARTIN looks at the MP3 tape disk and the hand-written message on the label. He
looks at it and sighs. He puts the disk down on his desk on the photo of ETHAN
SAWYER.)
DISSOLVE TO:
[FLASHBACK: NIGHT]
(ETHAN and JENNIFER are lying on a blanket, looking up at the stars and sharing
a moment together.)
JENNIFER NORTON: I don't want to be with anybody else. Not even for a second.
ETHAN SAWYER: Really?
JENNIFER NORTON: Isn't that weird? I love you.
ETHAN SAWYER: I'm so in love with you.
FADE TO BLACK.
